Accounting
To Bill keeps your books from your invoices, expenses and payments: each document becomes an entry, VAT included. You check, you fill in what is missing, and your fiduciary receives books that are ready for review.
Experimental feature
Accounting is still in development. Check your figures with your fiduciary before you file any return.
Where to start
- Open your books: Turn on accounting. If your books were kept elsewhere, also read Moving your books from other software.
- Every week: work through the list on the accounting home page, reconcile your bank and attach the missing receipts in the journal.
- Every quarter or half-year: file the VAT return.
- At year-end: check the health of your books, then close the financial year and send the exports to your fiduciary.
All guides
- Turn on accounting Answer three questions, check the preview of your books, fix what needs fixing, then open your books.
- Moving your books from other software Take over the trial balance from bexio or other software as your opening balance sheet, and post the documents dated before your books were opened.
- The accounting home page See where your accounts stand, deal with what is waiting for action and choose the Simple or Expert display.
- The journal and entries Find any entry, post an entry by hand, attach its supporting voucher, and correct a mistake with a reversal.
- The chart of accounts View your company’s accounts, add an account, rename it, switch it off or delete it.
- Accounting settings Choose your display and the accounts used by default for your sales, your payments and each expense category.
- The balance sheet and the income statement See what the business owns and owes, what it has earned and spent, compare with last year and download the reports.
- The trial balance and the general ledger Check the totals and balance of each account, then follow every transaction of an account, entry by entry.
- Set up your company’s VAT Enter your VAT number, the settlement method the FTA has authorised, how often you file and when VAT is due.
- Prepare and file the VAT return Check your return in four steps, file it with the FTA, then correct it if needed and complete the annual reconciliation.
- Upload the VAT return to the FTA Portal Download the eCH-0217 file of your VAT return and import it on the FTA Portal, without copying a single figure.
- Acquisition tax Declare VAT on services bought from foreign businesses, whether or not your company is registered for VAT.
- Manage your fixed assets and their depreciation Enter your vehicles, machines and computers in the register, book their depreciation, then sell them or take them off the balance sheet.
- Recurring entries and accruals Enter rent, a lease or an accrued expense once, and To Bill posts it on each due date, with its reversal if needed.
- Close the financial year Post your year-end entries, review the checks, close the financial year and carry your balances forward to the next one.
- Have the profit appropriation decided Prepare the proposal to the meeting, book its decision, then declare and pay the withholding tax on the dividend.
- The notes to the annual accounts Answer the questions for the notes, check the document and download it as a PDF; the year-end closing freezes it with the annual accounts.
- The health of your books Run the checks on your books, understand each point flagged and correct it before the year-end closing.
- Exports for your fiduciary Download the financial year’s file pack, your reports as CSV or PDF, and the journal in the format of your fiduciary’s software.
- Simplified books Keep your books as receipts, expenses and a statement of assets, and find your figures on form 328 of the Canton of Zurich.
- Foreign currencies How To Bill converts your invoices, expenses and payments in foreign currencies into francs, at the FTA’s official rate, and revalues them at year-end.
- Archive and retention of your books Download the complete archive of your books, keep it for ten years, and do so before you delete your company from To Bill.
