Get your invoices paid online, by card or TWINT
With the QR-bill, your client pays by transfer. By linking your Stripe account, you also offer them credit card and TWINT: they pay in one click from their invoice’s link, and To Bill records the payment by itself.
Before you start
- You need the permission to manage the settings (usually: the administrator).
- Stripe is the payment provider. If you do not have a Stripe account yet, you create one while connecting. Stripe asks you for information about your company and its representative, and the bank account to pay the money into.
Link your Stripe account
Open Settings › Receive Payments. As long as nothing is linked, the Not connected box is shown, with the three steps to follow.
Click Connect with Stripe (1). Stripe opens in a new tab.
At Stripe, sign in to your account or create one, then complete the verification: identity, company, bank account.
Come back to To Bill. The box in Settings › Receive Payments follows the status Stripe gives your account:
- Connected to Stripe: Stripe accepts payments for your account, and your clients can pay your invoices by card or TWINT.
- As long as Stripe does not accept payments for your account, the box says why, and your client portal offers neither card nor TWINT: your clients pay by transfer with the QR-bill.
| What the box says | What to do |
|---|---|
| Setup to finish | Stripe is still waiting for information from you; To Bill shows how much. Click Finish the setup on Stripe. |
| Verification in progress | Stripe is checking the information sent. It takes a few minutes, sometimes a few days; the status updates by itself. |
| Account refused by Stripe | Open the Stripe Dashboard to find out why. |
| Payments paused by Stripe | Open the Stripe Dashboard to find out what to do. |
If the setup link has expired
To Bill tells you and offers to resume the setup: Stripe keeps what you have already entered. If Stripe is not answering, the box shows Status unavailable and a Try again button; your account stays linked.
You find the same connection in Settings › Integrations, on the Stripe card: Connect, then Manage once it is linked. See Integrations.
What your client sees
When you send an invoice, your client receives a link to their invoice online. There, they choose:
- credit card, for an invoice in any currency;
- TWINT, for an invoice in Swiss francs.
These two means of payment only appear once your account has been accepted by Stripe (Connected to Stripe).
A draft, a cancelled invoice or one already paid cannot be paid online. See The client portal.
After the payment
- The amount is paid into your Stripe account, then Stripe transfers it to your bank account at the pace set at Stripe.
- To Bill records the payment on the invoice, which changes to Paid. If the mobile app is installed, you receive an “Invoice paid” notification.
- If accounting is on, Stripe payments, fees, refunds and payouts are posted. See Card and TWINT payments (Stripe).
Manage or unlink the account
Open Stripe Dashboard takes you to your Stripe account: payments received, payouts, refunds, bank details.
To unlink your account, click Disconnect Stripe in Settings › Receive Payments, then confirm. From then on, your clients can no longer pay your invoices by card or TWINT. The money already received stays in your Stripe account, and To Bill keeps following the refunds, disputes and payouts of these payments. You can link an account again later.
